Note: This test is the professional version, and is available to Dr. Lam Coaching and Lam Clinic Clients only. The professional version of the visual contrast sensitivity test is much more comprehensive than the standard version.

Visual contrast sensitivity (VCS) testing measures the ability to differentiate between light and dark areas in visual stimuli. Similar in form to standard vision testing, VCS testing involves the presentation of a series of images of varying contrast and spatial frequency and the recording of the contrast levels where patterns can be identified. The data collected is then used to generate a contrast sensitivity curve which can be a helpful diagnostic tool.

A contrast sensitivity deficit can be caused by a number of things, including nutritional deficiencies, the consumption of alcohol and certain medications, and exposure to neurotoxins and/or biotoxins, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), venom from animal or insect stings or bites, molds and their associated mycotoxins and microbial VOCs, cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates (particularly Pfiesteria and Ciguatera), apicomplexans, parasites, heavy metals like mercury and lead, and the pathogens responsible for Lyme disease and its common co-infections.

Biotoxins and their metabolic intermediates and byproducts are a significant and relatively common cause of chronic illness, their presence sometimes leading to a chronic inflammatory syndrome that results in a number of symptoms like chronic fatigue, headache, cognitive and memory difficulties, light sensitivity, mood swings, and dozens more.

While VCS testing isn't, by itself, diagnostic, it is a very reliable screening tool that can be quickly and easily used to determine if exposure to neurotoxins or biotoxins may be affecting your health. If you have positive VCS test results, you should consult your healthcare provider, who can investigate and properly diagnose the cause.

This VCS test is offered entirely online using any modern device or computer with a web browser. It features display calibration so that results are always accurate; newer tablets and mobile phones are recommended, but desktop and laptop computers may also be used.
